A little late but …

Seven years late – I have finally finished producing the videos of our cruise in 2011 from Dubai to Dover with our friends Cathie and Philip.  It was a fun trip.

The playlist starts in Hong Kong

Only five years late, is the video record of our visit to the Loire Valley, Paris, Norway and the Baltic

and to bring you right up to date, our visit to the Far East in 2012:

Enjoy at your leisure!

Edinburgh

Glasgow to Edinburgh, Scotland 4 August

We caught a ScotRail train for the short trip to Edinburgh and then a taxi for the short drive to the Hotel Missoni right in the centre.  The hotel is modern and very pleasing to the eye.
After settling in, we got the red bus to see the sights.  The rain was enough to get wet, but cleared later.  The city is buzzing with the Edinburgh Festival as well as the Tattoo which opens Friday night.  As a consequence, that part of the city (near George V Bridge) where we got on the bus was subject to detours after 5pm so we travelled down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse again.  Les dutifully got off the bus to find that Joy was detained by a cranky driver who refused to let her off.  All’s well that ends well.  We reunited and walked back up the hill to the hotel.
We dined tonight at The Kitchin in Leith, the same area where the ex Royal Yacht, Brittania is moored.  A relatively small restaurant that emphasises fresh local produce – ceps, guinea fowl, scallops, & turbot were our choices.
Spoke to Andrew in London via Skype after we returned to the hotel.

Edinburg, Scotland 5 August

This morning we spoke to Tim in Luxembourg via Skype.
After breakfast, we walked up the road to Edinburgh Castle.  A dress rehearsal for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was held last night, and the official opening is tonight.  There were some great views from the castle.  We caught the One O’Clock Gun on video – click here to see it
A great sunny day.
We had a good dinner in the Italian restaurant in the hotel.

Edinburg, Scotland 6 August (Insight Day 1)

We checked out of the Missoni reluctantly and transferred to the Roxburghe Hotel below in the new city for our Insight Country Roads of Scotland Tour.
From the hotel, we saw the One O’Clock Gun fire (but didn’t think quickly enough to video it!).
We then walked to the Palace of Holyroodhouse for a bite to eat and then a tour of the Palace and Gardens.  The weather had started to turn to rain and gradually got heavier during the afternoon and evening.
We met as a group before boarding the bus to attend the second night of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.  We were dressed for the rain that did not let up all night, in fact getting heavier and heavier, but ended up soaking wet.  The performance was brilliant – every seat in the house really had a great view.

Edinburg, Scotland 7 August (Insight Day 2)

This morning we were given a city tour that finished at Edinburgh Castle.  We had a city guide who is said to be the best guide in the city and whom we enjoyed.  He was dressed for the part of course.
There was an optional tour this afternoon to Rosslyn Chapel but we elected for a free afternoon.

We are going out to a local restaurant for dinner tonight, and leave Edinburgh in the morning for the Highlands.Posted by Picasa
